Pre-babies, the x-rated moments are vast and abundant, exciting and fun. Post-babies, the x-rated moments are non-existent. At least we can blame the first six weeks or so on the doctor's orders, but when the 'waiting' period is gone, between battling with dirty diapers, sleepless nights, sore breasts, and post-baby bodies, we're left wondering if the romance was taken out in one of the dirty diaper bags.
Not only that, when we manage to find time for those x-rated moments again, they become expected and routine. Where is all the excitement? Obviously it's harder to find and make alone time, and the alone time that is allotted to the day always falls into the same slots, nap time and bed time. So how do we keep the romance alive? How do we keep the x-rated moments fun and unpredictable? How do we maintain the intimacy?
I have yet to figure that out, so if you have any tips, feel free to let me know.
I remember those days. Here's the good news, eventually the diapers are done. Your kids reach a point where they are more self sufficient and you start to get more energy.
ReplyDeleteMy last child started kindergarten this year. We also moved and hubby sometimes comes home for lunch during the day. Those are my kind of play dates! I get lots of ideas from Cosmo magazine. Just trying new stuff keeps the excitement going.
Good luck!
That's true, the diaper stage doesn't last forever. :) I'll have to look through Cosmo, I stopped reading it because it was always about sex, funny that I'd be picking it up for the same reason I stopped looking at it. :)
DeleteI just found a fun and clean blog dedicated to bringing the spark back. It's thedatingdivas.com
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check that out thank you. :)
DeleteCan you find a babysitter and get away for the weekend or even for a night? If not, I can assure you that they grow up fast, really fast, and things get better. :)
ReplyDeleteI know it's crazy, but my kids have never been left with anyone, even the times they've been left alone with Daddy have been far and few. I've been talking about finding a babysitter for a while, I guess it's still on the to do list.
DeleteI'm with Sherri - try and find a babysitter - grandparents? Anyway, thanks for visiting my blog and hope you find that alone-together time soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzy. :)
DeleteI don't know about post baby. I was a single mom. I do know that now she has a family of her own, my x-rated moments are more exciting than they have ever been. Good luck
ReplyDeleteSingle moms are heroes. That's wonderful that your x-rated moments are so full of excitement now. I know that day will return for me, I just don't know when. :)
DeleteThis rings home for me too. We have two kids now and it's hard to make it feel exciting and new again. Charity, thank you for mentioning the dating divas. I've heard about their site but I have never been there. I will check it out.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Jessica! I hope you get a night off or away to play! My husband and I are both turning 40 here. I told him we will go over night somewhere. We need it! :)
Thanks for visiting my site.
Happy A-Z
Rebekah
I hope you and your husband to manage to have a night away, I'm sure that will fire up some romance. :)
DeleteI don't have kids but realise how difficult it must be. I think you and hubby should try and have a few date nights!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Maybe it will be a bit easier to set up a date night now that warmer weather is here...???
DeleteI am child and husband-less, but from my married friends, I see a resurgence in their relationship when the kiddos are are a little older, and can be left unattended, and also trusted to stay in bed all night :)
ReplyDeleteOnly two more days of the A to Z!
That makes sense. I guess I should have expected my love life would disappear after having kids because you're now living for someone else. But when they start becoming more independent, then I'll have some me time again. :)
DeleteGreat topic for letter "X". My kids are grown now but I vividly remember feeling exactly what you describe. Not that it helps right now but speaking from experience just give it time and the problem will resolve its self. Thanks for stopping by my blog and come again:)
ReplyDeleteLike everything in life, it passes. :) I'll just have to focus on the wonderfulness of my kids being young before they grow up so fast and I'm left missing it. :)
