K: Keen Kids

It never ceases to amaze me how intelligent children are.  They deserve way more credit than they're given.  Their ability to soak up knowledge is incredible.  It really makes you realize that you have to be careful of what you say around your kids.

Day after day, it seems my daughter is always learning something new.  Some things that she rambles on about I remember having told her about just that day or the day before, but some things just come out of the blue, leaving me to wonder where she picked them up?  A TV show?  A passing conversation?

I feel so lucky to be able to watch my children grow and observe, learn and absorb.  Everything in life is at their fingertips and I wholeheartedly believe in their ability to achieve anything they put their minds to.  Quite often I find myself wishing I could look at the world with such love and innocence.  That I could absorb new information in the blink of an eye.  That I could look at each new experience with awe and amazement.  But then I think to myself... well what's stopping me?

  1. "But then I think to myself... well what's stopping me?"

That should be my new motto!

    1. I agree. :) I think the world would be a little less scary if we all looked at things this way. :)

    1. I'd have to agree, even if we don't learn from kids, we SHOULD definitely take many of our lessons from them.

  4. Nice to meet you, Jessica--Yes the kids grow and learn so fast...and then they spread their wings and fly!

    1. Nice to meet you too Amy. :) They certainly do grow fast, I look at my daughter and think 'where has my baby gone?' and she's only 2 1/2!

  5. Jessica,

Children have extremely keen insight to things going on around them. It amazes me how quickly my 4 year-old son will pick up on things (sometimes things I don't want him to pick up on)!

I have found myself trying to catch what I say before I say it on many occasions. I know I am the role model he "thinks" he wants to be like right now (help the world if he succeeds and there is someone else like me in the world...sigh)

    1. You definitely have to watch your own behaviour more closely for sure, although it's easy to forget how much our kids take in.

:) Aww, I think the world would be happy if your son turned out just like you. :)

  6. Great post! Kids are like sponges. I think their thought processes are so neat because when they are so young they haven't formed biases. Everything is new and interesting--no restraints. Love that! Happy A-to-Z 2013! ~Angela, Whole Foods Living, http://www.wholefoodsliving.blogspot.com/

    1. I really wish we all could do this, I'm sure everyone would be so much happier to view life with wonderment over every simplicity.

  8. I've no children of my own (I pray every day for my own family, when the time is right ;) but I grew up the oldest of 8 kiddos. My second to youngest sibling was the family's biggest challenge...but I remember the first full sentence he spoke and the look that he gave from those big blue eyes of his when he realized what had just happened! lol! It is such a wonderful thing, witnessing growth and development in children.

    1. I wish children for you as well, they are the greatest joy. It will happen, when the time is right, like you said.

Thank you for sharing your story, it made me smile. And wow 8 kids! I always wanted a big family.

  9. It is so amazing just how much a baby learns in the first couple of years of life. And then they just keep learning.

    1. It is amazing. I look back at videos of my daughter from just a year ago and the amount she has changed and grown is incredible.
