R: Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Now I understand that repetition is the key to remembering, and at times it's certainly endearing that my little ones are capable of singing back to me all that I've just said, like the most beautiful echo, but there are times when this method of learning is not so fun, at least not for the listener.

I love the sound of my daughter's voice and I love hearing what she has to say.  I love having conversations with her and I love answering her questions.  But I don't love it when she says the same thing over and over and over and over and over, even though I've responded each and every time.  Or when she's discovered something she finds absolutely hilarious and she just has to bring it up at least five times a day.  Her most current quip... "Mommy... umm... what's a rhombus?"  Thanks Sesame Street!  I hope I'm not the only parent who feels like I'm going bonkers.

Then there are the times when she's trying to tell something to her Daddy... Now I know men aren't the greatest listeners to begin with, (I hate to be guilty of generalization but let's be honest... this is true for the most part, at least it's the case for most of the men that have been a part of my life), but you think they would make an exception for their sweet little angels.

It's frustrating enough when I know everything that I've just said hasn't even gone in one ear, never mind out the other, but when my little sweetheart is repeatedly begging for her Daddy's attention, it gets under my skin, even moreso than the repetition itself.  And it breaks my heart when I try to acknowledge my daughter, just so she won't have to repeat her darling little self any longer, and she says: "I'm asking Daddy."

Although I am filled with gratitude for the wonderful little girls that have blessed my life with their being, I don't think it's that horrible that I think sometimes, just sometimes, it would be nice to have the occasional moment of peace and quiet.

On a side note, I just want to say thank you to all the people who have decided to follow my blog.  I get so excited when I look at my number and see that someone new has joined my blogging 'family'.  Hope you are all having a fabulous day!

  2. How about a husband (now ex) who used to repeat something over and over and over and over just to annoy me. Yes. It didn't help to ignore him. Yes.

    1. Haha, that's funny. I always believed having a boyfriend was just like having another kid around. :)

  3. I would talk to him. He needs to know that he is hurting his daughter's feelings. She's trying desperately to get his attention and know that she's important in his life.

    1. I know it breaks my heart to see it. I've brought it up several times and for a while he seems to get better but it's so easy to slip back into old habits.

  4. Give your hubby a nudge (or kick)...little girls love their daddy's. I know what you mean about getting new followers, I feel the same way! Enjoy your weekend.

    1. I usually throw something at him to get his attention. :)

It is fun to get new followers. This a-z challenge has been a blast so far.

  5. I have four kids (who are all grown now) and the pointless repetition and unnecessary loudness used to get to me, too, especially toward the end of the day. In addition to my own, I also used to babysit a little boy and one evening when he was about two and a half, everyone (including him) was being particularly loud and he walked through the chaos and said, "I just need a little peas and kiet." It was adorable--and maybe a little pathetic. But ever since then (he's 11 now), when things are particularly loud, I crave Peas and Kiet.

  6. Peace and quiet was usually found in five minute increments in the bathroom- maybe if I remembered to lock the door-maybe if the kids were busy and they weren't knocking lol

    1. :) I hear ya, only if you lock the bathroom door do you get left alone in there. Even then, there's usually someone on the other side banging or bawling. :) I know I'll miss these days when the kids are older though.

  7. I have three boys and each would ask me the exact same question even though they knew the answer would be the same... I eventually got a a point where one would ask, 'Mommy, what colour is the sky?' and I would answer with, 'D, the sky is blue. G, the sky is blue. J, the sky is blue.' That way they were all satisfied and I didn't have to have the question on repeat, times three :).

    1. Haha, your story was so funny. At least you got smart and just answered them all at once, saving yourself from the fun of repetition. Too cute.

  8. Hello Jessica.

What I think is funny is when my kids want to give me the play by play on a show they're watching. Sometimes I want quiet, but honestly since there was a time when producing language was an issue for both, I'm really just happy they're expressing themselves.

Thanks for visiting my blog, nice to meet you through the A to Z!

    1. Hi Wendy, :)

I agree, I love hearing my daughter express herself. I love hearing everything she has to say. :)

  9. I'm new here, but I feel compelled to say talk to your husband. His lack of listening skills needs to be addressed now, not later. If he's not listening to you or his daughter, who or what has his attention? MM

    1. Sometimes it seems like he has improved on this issue, although he gradually manages to slide back into his old habits. It's a learning curve I suppose.
