Z: Zazzy Zippers

Oh my goodness!!  We've finally reached z.  It's been fun, it's been exhausting, I'm glad I did it.  Thanks again to all those who have joined my blog, and to everyone who left their wonderful comments.  Happy blogging to you all. :)

One time-saving tip I'd like to share with any new parents or parents to be out there... pick zippers over buttons (at least for the first few months).

I can still remember one of the first times I attempted to put one of those darn button-up sleepers on my little sweetheart... I had NO idea what I was doing.  I buttoned up buttons but there were holes and gaps and it came out like a mishmash of material more than cozy pajamas.  Add a squirmy baby to that and frustration meddles with time-consuming.

I actually had to rummage through my stack of baby clothes to study how the buttons fit together.  It might have looked easy in theory but putting it together in practice was no simple task.  From then on zippers were my best friend and buttons were my undefeated enemy.

Fortunately, practice makes perfect and patience is key.  Thankfully my darling daughter had enough patience to keep her movements to a minimum while this mommy fought tirelessly to figure out those darn buttons.

But now, my oldest sweetie is almost two, and the zipper and the buttons are on equal ground, at least for me.  The war of the buttons is not over though, it has claimed a new victim... my daughter.  She too has gracefully mastered the art of zippering.  It's just the complicated function of the button she has yet to figure out.  But I have faith in her.  If this mama can do it, I know she can!

  3. Love your A to Z theme.

I remember struggling over my nieces' sleepers. And it's so cute to watch toddlers figure out buttons and zippers.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and congrats on getting through A to Z, too!

  4. That is a great tip for new parents. Very true!
My preference in closures, in least favorite to most, are buttons, snaps, zippers, elastic.
By and large, my children live in elastic-only clothing until they reach school-age, when uniforms and buttons are required.
    Congrats on completing the challenge!!

    1. Thanks. :) It's a good note to remember for at least the first few months of parenthood when things are hectic enough already. :)

  6. Great post, Jessica! I'm not a Mom but I've taken care of babies and I'm with you on the squiggly thing when you're trying to dress them. Even as an adult I sort of prefer zippers. Sadly, I'm great at breaking them, so...love/hate going on here. Congrats on finishing the Challenge. It was a tough one for me this year, but I made it!! Take care!

    1. That's true, zippers can be a bother by breaking or even snagging. Yay, congrats to you too. :)

  7. Jessica, I too remember when my son was little and all the little problems we had with the buttons, I never saw any clothes with zippers and it would have eased many a frustrating time. Thankfully now at 17 he dresses himself!:)

    1. Oh no! No clothes with zippers, life would have been a bit more frustrating for sure.

  8. I remember fumbling with baby buttons and gripper snaps and such, many, many years ago when mine were small. I am a big zipper fan! Imagine life in the pre-zipper eras, when getting dressed for anyone meant long rows of buttons, even on shoes! I'm thinking with kids that mom's must have spent a lot of time sewing on buttons that came off!

  9. Thanks for visiting my blog ... I too preferred zippers on baby cloths but mainly because some buttons were big enough to poke through the clothes and hurt my majorly restless baby...!!

    Congrats on finishing the challenge...

    1. Oh dear, I don't think I've encountered buttons like that yet. How silly they would be made like that when they're for kids.

  10. I prefer buttons on the older kids - keeps them in their clothes longer! I seem to have a problem with mine always undressing themselves. But I agree zippers are better when they are younger.

Congrats on making it through the challenge!

    1. I never thought of that. My youngest would probably take her clothes off if she could. Luckily my oldest keeps hers on though. :)

  11. Zippers would be nice. Zippers on sleepers when my girl was a baby was unheard of. Or at least I never saw any. That's progress!

  13. Zippers have dangers of their own. If you're not careful you can zip up the precious little one's skin...not that I've ever done that....

    1. I hear ya. This thought has crossed my mind from time to time so I usually put my finger behind the zipper as an extra precaution. :)
